LETTERPRESS POSTER FOR HATCH SHOW PRINT INTERNSHIP

Poster Design, Letterpress, Printmaking, Typography, Grid Systems & Layout

Completed: June 2025

This poster was incredibly fun and quite challenging to create. Three all star bands playing together in one show at the official site of the original 1969 Woodstock festival… mind blowing to say the least. I felt honored to be able to work on this poster with these people. After several different concepts, I decided to use a red, white, and blue rocket popsicle as my main inspiration for this design. Because of its correlation with the nostalgia of summer nights and its similar color palette to what was being used on the branding for the bands’ “Last Summer On Earth Tour”. With use of the extensive Hatch Show Print type collection, I was able to bring this idea to life using traditional letterpress techniques. For the offset checker pattern on the sides, I used the back side of varying letterforms to get a nice wood texture on those rectangles. Added in some fun dingbats, oblique type, and a big ol’ astronaut as the focal point, further solidifying the pre-established tour branding style. I’ll remember this project for the rest of my life, I hope you enjoy it half as much as I do. I am also very pleased to say that these posters sold out before the concert even began… yippee!
